The Thermal Sea-Pool Heaven of Agios Fokas
Kos is a famous destination in the Mediterranean, favored not only for its impressive sights, sandy beaches, and beautiful landscapes but also for its hot springs. About 13 km from your Diamond Collection Hotel, you will find the thermal spring of Agios Fokas -known as Thermes, right on the beach of Therma—gushing from a crack in a rock and purring into a large sea-pool on the shore.
The water temperature in Thermes stretches from 30 to 50 degrees Celsius, but when the water from the spring mixes with the seawater, it makes for a soothingly warm bath. Thermes is an excellent source of nature’s power against several health conditions, as it contains minerals like potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, and sodium.
Hippocrates of Kos, one of the most prominent figures in Medicine, was the first to study the sources and types of water, and the effects each of them have on overall health. He classified them as potable, saline or seawater, where the “saline” was actually mineral spring water. He spoke of the effect of cold and hot baths on the human body and soul, and did thorough research on conditions for which curative waters would be highly recommended to patients.
Besides being enjoyed for its tremendous health benefits, the hot spring of Agios Fokas is also a place to soak in, let go of negative emotions, and relax. The thermal pool stays busy till late in the autumn and has free admission, waiting for you to melt your worries away!
